Oh my goodness! The UPS guy came in a few days ago with a box for me. No big deal - I get boxes of orders all the time. I looked at the return label and didn't know where it was from. When I opened it - I was in SHOCK! When we went to the Creating Keepsakes Convention in Charlotte back in August, I entered the door prize contest. OH MY! I WON!!!! I NEVER win anything. I'm so excited! I have a lot of new reading to do - in my spare time (ha, ha, ha).

Summer Calendar

Have you ever had a really busy month? My friend's kids go away for most of the summer. She loves to document what they do each day. I helped her create this 7 week calendar page (I printed it for her). She then took different colored pens and wrote in the details of their summer. Each event was a different color. For example- 3 days in St. Louis, 2 days in IA, 7 days in MI, etc. It's really cool to look at this calendar and see how the different days were spent. I know there aren't any pictures on it, but sometimes it's really important to get the details down. I know I'm not the best at journaling.

Little Blessings - layout

I've been on such a creative roll lately. Here's just one of the new layouts I've created. I've put it together in a kit. When it's gone - there's no more. I'm going to try and post a few more layouts soon - but don't hold your breath. As you can probably tell - I'm terrible about posting. Have a great weekend!

When did it get to be October!
Boy am I a bad blogger. Since my last blog, I've been to Charlotte, NC, back to MN, to San Diego, and back here. The last 2 months have flown by. I was in San Diego watching my nephew graduate from Marine boot camp. I'm so proud of him! You would think, that since I live so close to Paris Island (the other Marine boot camp location), that he would get stationed here. But NO - he was in CA. Oh well. I got to spend several days there with my brother, his fiance, and my mom. That was really nice. We kept running the whole time.
Since I've been back, I've been on a major creative roll. I've got tons of new layouts up in the store. I've been working like crazy to come up with classes and cards. I'm really looking forward to getting the card classes started again. Sue is going to be teaching the first one on Oct. 15th. Can't wait!
There has been tons going on in the scrapbook industry. First of all, Scrapbook Studio in Pooler, GA shut down about a month ago. I'm sorry that Cecile wasn't able to make that work. Becky Higgins is no longer with Creating Keepsakes (you can read about it on her blog - entry from September 15th http://www.beckyhiggins.com/blog/
Scenic Route Announces Liquidation Sale & Closure - Another scrapbook company is closing up. If you like there stuff, check out their web site. I think anyone can shop the sale.
It's so sad to see these big scrapbook companies going under. Just reminds us that we have to do everything we can to keep the little ones going.

CHA - Summer '09

Oh my goodness did Beth and I have FUN!!!!! We headed down to CHA in Orlando July 29th & 30th. We missed the first day, but made the most of the last 2 days of the show. I went in with one budget and come out with a completely different one. I really hope Jeff doesn't divorce me! That means you all HAVE to come in and see all of the new goodies that should be rolling in soon.
Beth did manage to spot a few "celebrities" at the show. You know, I had no idea who most of them were.

The other 3 grandchildren
Ashley's Graduation
My husband's daughter graduated from High School. All our kids are now grown up! In fact we have one turning 30 this year. Ashley is so cute and a sweetheart to boot, we couldn't ask for more. One morning Ashley and I got up early early to catch the sunrise but it turned out cloudy. We started snapping pictures and came up with these amazing pics. She is so photogenic, it's easy to make pages of her.
Now I'm on a roll!
Our Precious Angel
This is our darling Angel, and yes, that is her name (actually it is Angeline but she has always been our Angel). Check out that gorgeous red hair, it is such a beautiful bronzy red and she has a personality to match. Angel recently spent 5 weeks with us here in Hilton Head and she learned how to help us at the scrapbook store, she greeted customers, showed them where to find our custom products, showed them where the 'plain' paper was....it was quite cute. And, yes, of course I got some darling new pictures which I'm sure you will be seeing in upcoming page spreads.
Struggling with the internet....
If any of you know me personally you know I love the computer but struggle with the internet, maybe that 'old dog, new trick' thing. My kids say mom, just do this, and I feel like they are speaking a foreign language. But I'm trying to learn how to paste in pics of some of my designs so here it goes... YEA, I did it!!
So now that I'm moving into the world of the internet I can share with you some of my fav's

Summer CHA show is comming!!!!
Hi everyone-
There are soooo many posts online about what companies are releasing at the summer CHA show in Orlando, FL July 28-20th. I was really hoping to go, but plans have changed again, and I won't be able to attend. I've been finding lots of fun things to look at on line.
I just read on Fiskars about Cloud 9 and Heidi Grace being sold to Colorbok. I really hope that Colorbok does a good job with both of these lines. I've loved these lines in the past. We'll have to see what they come up with.
Are there any good paper lines you think I should consider? Drop me an email about it so I can check them out.

Donna Downey
Oh yea, forgot to mention I got this way cool e-mail from Donna Downey's husband saying she was coming to the area and are we interested in a class. I'm almost too afraid to answer her back. DONNA DOWNEY, like she's famous! I know people say they love my stuff but she's like FAMOUS.
Ok, I'll respond....what do I say.....YES of course. We would love to have you come. HELP!!!

It's COLD up here!
So far we've made it through Chicago and it's only 57degrees. I didn't bring long pants or regular shoes because I'm so used to the beautiful WARM weather on HHI I simply didn't think of it. STUPID or just STUPID!! I lived in MN my whole life, you think I would have gotten it by now. Or maybe I'm just becoming a SC native (yea!)
I have to tell you though, my mind is flying. I got the chance to create to fantastic pages (if I say so myself) before I left HHI so you've got to stop by the store and check them out. My goal was to take paper from that "stash" I had and see what I could do with it. It was pretty fun and it felt good to get a page made from paper I had been just sitting on.
We've been rolling out some new die cuts this past couple weeks. You simply have to check out the Graduation products we've got. We have a custom page with Class of 2009 (or any other year) out of your school colors. I think I'm gonna make this into a two page kit and offer it on the web because it's just too great! I also created a pendant banner that says 2009 Grad (sample will be up in a week or so when I return). We are using it for Ashley's graduation party so I'll have a pic of it in our home too!
We've got some new football, basketball and LaCrosse die cuts we've rolled out. They are way way cool! I'm making a sample spread with the football cuts that I'll have up when I get back (yea, I drive Jeff nuts because I brought projects with).
Ok, I need IDEAS!!! I keep seeing other stores that have design teams. How does that work, call me stupid or something but I just don't get it! I think though it would be fun to have a contest. Any ideas???? I'll put together a gift pack for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners if someone helps me come up with an idea. Make sure it's a good one because you know me, it's got to be over the top!
So Beth, bless her heart, has been kicking my butt to get me rolling out some custom items for our web site. I've got a few to get doneso give us June to get them scanned in, figure out the web site (my hardest task) and out for sale. I think you will enjoy some of these.
Ok, gotta go, Jeff is rolling down the road and since this little VW Jetta gets about 50 mpg I rarely get to stop for breaks but I think we need one now.......

Memory Makers Magazine to Shut Down
Taken from the SCRAPBOOK UPDATE site...Yesterday, Memory Makers Magazine issued a public statement on their message board confirming their plans to shut down after the Sept/Oct. 2009 issue. The statement, issued in the name of F+W Media Crafts/Genealogy & Special Sales Vice President Teri Mollison, indicates that the company is canceling the Memory Makers Masters contest as part of the magazine's shutdown. The passion and dedication of the Memory Makers contributors, advertisers, vendors, staff, and readers these past 13 years is what has made this business so rewarding for those of us fortunate enough to publish the magazine. Sadly, in light of increased industry consolidation, severe advertising cut backs, poor economic conditions, and lack of new consumers coming to the hobby, we cannot continue to profitably publish the magazine on- or offline. As we work to bring this last issue to closure, however, I want to take a moment and thank you for your role in crafting the Memory Makers story. The beautiful thing about this magazine is that it has memorialized the scrapbookers and scrapbooking companies forever that really launched this exciting hobby. We are proud and thankful for that heritage. The company's Memory Makers Magazine website will continue in operation, as will the Memory Makers Books publishing imprint and their Great American Scrapbook Conventions.
Isn't it sad to see another industry magazine closing up? Just had to share what I found out.

prioritizing photos
OK - There is a challenge at Scrapbook.com to teach a friend to scrapbook.
I was reading on Stacy Julian's blog (the former editor of Simple Scrapbooks) about the process she uses for prioritizing and printing event photos. Check out her blog post here http://stacysbigpicture.typepad.com/altogether_too_happy/2009/05/happy-birthday-taft.html
I really hope the link works.
I know we all do things differently, but this sounds pretty cool. Now, I just need to learn to carry through with any process the upload and get my pictures printed.
